1.What Is It?

DHMA (or Octodrine), scientifically known as Dimethylhexylamine is a stimulant compound with a similar molecular structure to previous stimulants which are no longer available in Australia including AMP Citrate, BMPEA and the ever popular DMAA. It is a synthetic compound, despite being thought to be derived from a plant called Aconitum Kusnezoffii, which in fact is highly toxic. DHMA is relatively new to the market and slowly appearing in a variety of Pre-Workout and Fat Burner Supplements.

2.What Does It Do?

With DHMA sharing many properties as DMAA, it carries out a variety of similar functions including enhancing energy levels, enhancing cognitive function, decreasing appetite and improving bronchodilation (increasing the air pathways to allow more air flow). DHMA has also been shown to increase levels of Dopamine and Noradrenaline; two hormones responsible for making you ‘feel good’ and allowing you to perform in stressful situations. In addition, studies revealed that users experiences a higher pain threshold and a decreased rate of perceived exertion, thus allowing you to train beyond the point of fatigue. The combination of effects experienced when using DHMA provide the ultimate support for training, hence its increased inclusion in a variety of supplements on the market.

3.When Do I Take It?

To take advantage of the performance enhancing properties of this substance, it is best used approximately 15-45 minutes prior to training. Alternatively, if used predominantly for its appetite suppressant properties, DHMA can be used during the day. However, we recommend taking caution if using this ingredient in the afternoon, as it has the potential to influence your ability to sleep.

4.How Long Does It Take To Work?

DHMA begins to work as soon as it is absorbed in the blood stream, hence the recommendation of 15-45 minutes prior to training, depending on when you’re last meal was consumed. You will notice a heightened focus level, increased energy and a depression in your appetite, as well as an increased sensation of ‘feeling good’ and motivation.

5.How Much Does It Cost?

Currently, DMHA is contained with a variety of new supplements that have recently emerged on the market, varying in dosage. If we take an average serving size of 150mg, pre workouts containing DHMA vary from $2 – $3.50 per serve. Therefore, taking an average of $2.75, supplementing with DHMA will cost approximately $44 per month, when used 4 times per week.
